The Smith School Policy on Academic Honesty
11/5/2009 9:51:23 AM
As an accredited institution of secondary
education, the Smith School values the role that hard work, creativity and scholarship play in the pursuit of academic excellence. It is therefore the policy of The Smith School's administration to follow a zero-tolerance policy towards ALL forms of academic dishonesty, including, but not limited to: plagiarism, cheating, unauthorized use of helpful materials on tests and unauthorized copying or sharing of homework or test answers.
In the event that a student is found to be in violation of the school's Policy on Academic Honesty, the following steps will be taken:
1. The student will receive a "zero" on the assignment in question.
2. The student's parents will be called and/or asked to come in for a meeting with the school's Director, Vice-Principal and Dean of Academics.
3. The student will be formally warned that any other incident of academic dishonesty will result in immediate dismissal from the school.*
*Although we generally provide a warning for first-time offenses, The Smith School reserves the right to summarily expel students following any major breach of the Policy on Academic Honesty. Such decisions will be made SOLELY at the discretion of the school's Director, Vice-Principal and Dean of Academics.
